Qencode Joins the Alliance for Open Media to Help Drive Open Video Innovation

Qencode, a video processing platform, has joined the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) as a Promoter Member to contribute to multiple working groups. With AV1’s growing support and AV2 in draft, Qencode aims to enhance practical adoption and interoperability of these codecs, promoting open standards for accessible video technology development.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. FEBRUARY 2026 – Qencode, a cloud-based video processing platform built for companies developing serious video products, announced it has joined the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) as a Promoter Member. Qencode will contribute to the Video Codec Working Group, the Storage and Format Working Group, the Software Implementation Working Group, and the Audio Codec Working Group.

Joining at a Critical Moment for AV1 and AV2

AV1 has reached critical mass. Device and browser support is broad, and teams that have been evaluating the codec are now moving to production. AV2, built on AV1’s foundation, is in draft release with full availability expected later this year.

Qencode brings production-informed experience to AOMedia at a moment when practical implementation guidance matters most. Working with video platforms, OTT services, marketplaces, and AI-powered applications daily, the company has direct visibility into where AV1 adoption stalls, where interoperability creates friction, and what it takes to move from evaluation to deployment at scale.

Open Standards as Infrastructure Strategy

Advanced video infrastructure should not be reserved for hyperscalers. Open, royalty-free standards lower the barrier for every team building serious video products, making world-class codec technology accessible regardless of company size or resources.

“We are excited to join AOMedia and contribute a production-driven perspective, particularly around practical AV1 adoption, real-world interoperability, and guidance that helps make deployment simpler for developers,” said Murad Mordukhay, Founder and CEO, Qencode. “Our vision is a world where it is simple for anyone to turn their idea into the next great video platform, and we believe open standards are one of the most powerful ways to make that a reality.”
